Oktoberfest a Huge Success for Henderson Seniors

Fundraiser Event Sets New Record for Single Event Benefitting Nutrition and Social Programs

Henderson, NV- The Auxiliary Board of the Henderson Seniors Center today authorized release of results of this year’s annual Oktoberfest event.  A fivefold increase in funds raised over the prior year’s event was reported by Recording Secretary Karen Hoffmann despite a horrific set of thunder squalls.  Hoffmann said that the growth was attributable to several new features of this year’s event including a silent auction, raffle sales for a cash prize and more than 80 donated door prizes, food donations, a crafts fair, and the launch of the Henderson Seniors’ Booster Club.  Sales of gently used books, records, puzzles, and a variety of home baked goods were also very brisk, and over 200 tickets were sold for the barbeque lunch prepared and served by the Knights of Columbus

Additionally, novelty photo items were sold as mementos, including framed photos, photo buttons and refrigerator magnets.  Auxiliary Board President, Beverly Wigglesworth spearheaded the sale of Booster Club membership sales, and netted some memberships at the Gold and Platinum level. Funds raised will be utilized by the Board to sponsor various activities in support of Henderson’s Senior Citizens including the Black Mountain Nutrition Program, Meals-on-Wheels, and other outreach program at the Henderson Senior Center.

The City of Henderson Seniors Center is located at 27 E. Texas St.  Each day, they deliver Meals-on-Wheels to over 250 homebound seniors in the Henderson area as well as serving a hot lunch at the center.

Proceeds from Booster Club membership are managed by the Henderson Seniors’ Auxiliary which is a not-for-profit organization, making contributions tax deductible under section 5013c of the IRS Tax Code.

In addition to the Meals-on-Wheels program and the Hot Lunch at the center, the Auxiliary enables a variety of social and community based programs.  For details, log onto the Henderson Seniors Center website: www.cityofhenderson.com/seniors.  The Henderson Seniors Center is open to both residents and non-residents  age 50 and above. It is open 7 days a week.
